Japanese New Silkworms Produce Glowing Silk

The Japan Institute has recently cultivated a new type of silkworm. The silkworm produced by the silkworm can be seen through filters and can present a variety of colors, and it is planned to be put into practical use in the future.

According to reports, this fluorescent-looking fabric is made of fluorescent silk made from the silk of a transgenic silkworm. In order to be put into practical use in the future, relevant personnel are expected to implement the first experimental breeding in Japan in the summer of 2014.

After exposure to blue light, the cloth made of transgenic silk looks fluorescent green through the orange filter. Japan's independent institute of agricultural biological resources (Ibaraki, Ibaraki) developed and produced silkworms with this gene inserted into the jellyfish. This transgenic silk will appear green after passing through the orange filter.

In addition, the Institute has also used coral genes to develop fluorescent silk and fluorescent orange silk.

On February 3rd, experts approved the experimental breeding of transgenic silkworms through the environmental impact evaluation of transgenic silkworms. The transgenic silkworm also became the first genetically modified organism in Japan to target general farmers.
