Argentina and Brazil negotiate shoe product import restrictions

Argentina hopes that the quota for shoes imported from Brazil each year will be reduced from 15 million pairs/year to 12 million pairs/year.

Leaders of the two governments met in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo to discuss restrictions on imports of Argentine products. The Abicalçados industry group spoke on behalf of the Brazilian footwear manufacturer. Due to the delay in Argentina's import permit, about 4.5 million pairs of shoes were temporarily stored in warehouses. On the same day, Luis María Kreckler, Secretary of the Argentine Ministry of Trade and International Economic Relations, organized a seminar on regional integration in Sao Paulo. The participants were 120 senior Argentine officials who are currently working to improve the country’s current major trading partners.

"The cooperation between Argentina and Brazil is very strategic. We should attach great importance to the integration of the industrial value chains of the two countries. Argentina's GDP has doubled in value in the past eight years, and foreign trade exports have increased threefold. For sustainable development We will continue to go down this road!” Kreckler said.
