The World’s Largest Textile Garage Sale is an event like no other in my area, and it’s particularly exciting for anyone who loves fibers or crafting. This annual extravaganza not only offers fantastic deals but also supports the MN Textile Center. People and businesses generously donate piles of unused or unwanted textiles, including fabrics, yarns, threads, notions, kits, patterns, magazines, tools, beads, buttons, and even incomplete projects. For fabric aficionados and bargain hunters alike, it’s a dream come true, and best of all, it keeps tons of materials out of landfills.
This year, I was lucky enough to visit just as they were setting up the sale. I thought I’d give you a sneak peek of what I found! By the time I arrived, they still had around 24 hours left to finish organizing all the donated items. There’s truly an overwhelming amount of stuff—over $50,000 worth of materials! Let me show you around.
The sale takes place in a massive warehouse, and I’d say about a quarter of the space is dedicated to fabrics. You’ll find almost every type imaginable—cotton, linen, wool, silk, denim, corduroy, fancy prints, knits, fleece, flannel, polyester, and more. It’s a fiber lover’s paradise!

Knit fabrics are especially popular, with plenty of vintage options mixed in. Some pieces look like they’ve been sitting untouched for years, waiting for their next project.

Another quarter of the space is packed with yarns of all kinds. From acrylic to wool to novelty blends, there’s something for everyone. And if you’re looking for inspiration, the remaining half of the warehouse holds countless books, magazines, and sewing patterns. It’s a treasure trove for creative minds.

But wait, there’s more! The event also features a silent auction for high-end textile equipment like sewing machines, sergers, looms, and knitting machines. It’s a great opportunity to upgrade your tools without breaking the bank.

At the end of the day, the organizers hold a bag sale where you can fill a paper shopping bag with goodies for just $2. After that, any leftover materials are donated to schools and nonprofit organizations, ensuring minimal waste.
This event is such a steal for artists, students, and hobbyists. Prices are already rock-bottom, but the bag sale makes it even harder to resist. Plus, knowing that these materials won’t end up in a landfill gives shoppers an extra sense of satisfaction.
If your area has similar textile rummage sales, I’d love to hear about them in the comments. Whether it’s a small local event or something on a larger scale, sharing experiences helps us all discover new opportunities to support creativity and sustainability.
