Masterbatch and its composition

The masterbatch consists of an excess of chemical auxiliaries, carrier resins and dispersants. The masterbatch is an aggregate obtained by uniformly superabsorbing a pigment (dye) in a resin.

Color masterbatch main composition

First, the pigment is generally divided into organic pigments, such as indigo green; inorganic pigments such as iron oxide red, titanium white, etc.; dyes such as reduced peach red, dispersed orange and so on. Polyolefin and PVC masterbatches are pigments. Generally speaking, dyes are not used for polyolefin coloration, otherwise serious migration will occur.

Second, the dispersant mainly wets the surface of the pigment, which is beneficial to the further dispersion of the pigment and is stable in the resin. At the same time, it must be compatible with the resin and does not affect the quality of the colored product. The polyolefin masterbatch dispersant is generally a low molecular weight polyethylene wax or zinc stearate. Engineering plastic masterbatch dispersants generally use polar low molecular weight polyethylene wax, magnesium stearate, calcium stearate and the like.

Third, the carrier resin makes the pigment evenly distributed and the masterbatch is granular. The carrier should be considered for compatibility with the resin to be colored, and the masterbatch should have good dispersibility. Therefore, the fluidity of the carrier should be greater than that of the resin to be colored, and the color of the product should not be affected after being colored. If a similar polymer with a higher melt index is used, the melt index of the masterbatch is higher than that of the high polymer to ensure the uniform color of the final product. PE, PP color masterbatch selected LDPE (low density polyethylene) resin as carrier, PS, ABS masterbatch selected modified PS as carrier.
