When the collection encounters capital economic downturn

Since April, the spring festival of 2012 art has gradually begun. Judging from the collapse of Sotheby's and CapitaMalls, the total transaction price has declined significantly due to the impact of tightening capital flows. However, there is still a lot of auctioned products with a turnover of over 100 million yuan. The enthusiasm of the guests for bidding is still not low.

How many Chinese collectors? It is almost impossible to have exact figures. A conservative estimate is that there are tens of millions of people, and many think that it exceeds 100 million people.

In recent years, the "collection of people's heat" has intensified. Whether it is a wealthy person with a lot of money or an ordinary person who dreams of becoming rich overnight, he has no turning back to join the collection army and participate in this gathering feast.

When collecting a collection of capital, it has always been. Since the reform and opening up, the economic development has made ordinary people rich and created the economic conditions for personal collections. At the same time, the introduction of relevant laws also provides protection for the rise of personal collections. In 1982, the State promulgated the “Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Cultural Relics” to support and affirm the private collections; in 2007, the “PRC Property Law” was promulgated, which clearly stipulated that private legal property was protected by law and allowed personal collections to be based on law. .

With regard to the current “collection of people’s collection”, Li Xuesong, business director of the Painting and Calligraphy Department of Beijing Poly International Auction Co., Ltd., believes that after the “SARS” in 2003, it was also a process that changed from quantitative to qualitative. “One by one collection of wealth stories, the media, television programs help fuel the rise of the collection boom to an unprecedented level.”

In 2003, the entire spring auction in Beijing was postponed for two months. Three spring auctions were held in early July and three rates were created within 4 days: more than 90% turnover rate, more than 80% newcomers entering the auction, and a turnover of RMB 300 million. Since then, the Chinese art market has entered a period of rapid growth.

In 2009, the financial crisis that spread across the globe still could not stop the advent of the "billion-dollar era" in the art market. Art auctions have gradually changed from the "small circles" of the past to the "big circles" of art, finance, and capital.

It is not difficult to explain why the art market and the economy are in the opposite direction. When the property market is dark and the stock market is sluggish, the rich have nowhere to invest in the art market, and they turn to the art market. People who fear the devaluation of the currency always feel that the family is a bit of a collection and it is not a method of preserving the value. The “collection of the whole people” has actually evolved into a national speculation that does not take into account the consequences and all “seeing money”.

It is only a legend that Qi Baishi has recorded more than 22,000 paintings in his life. At least half of the paintings were collected by institutions. There are nearly 200,000 copies of the market circulation transactions.

Zhang Daqian's statistically handed works were roughly 20,000, and there were more than 100,000 copies traded on the market.

......

Wu Shu, a scholar who is known as the deep-throat collectors, believes that 95% of the 95% of people in China’s current collection market have bought 95% of counterfeit goods.

This number is shocking.

Everyone wants to make gold in the sand, but the ratio of "gold" is getting lower and lower.

Li Xuesong said that the public’s enthusiasm for collection is very high, but there are not many people who truly understand art. Most of the "new entry" people have little knowledge of art and even know nothing about it. If you want to miss, it's almost impossible.

From the experience of the industry, Li Xuesong said that in the Chinese art collection, everyone is most interested in the ancient art part. However, this section has a relatively high threshold for Tibetans and requires knowledge, experience, history, culture, archeology, and identification. As an ancient civilization with thousands of years, there are many artifacts and authentic artifacts handed down from China. Not all treasures are inherited in an orderly manner. Therefore, there is indeed an opportunity for flaws on the market. "Not to say how cheap the price is, but the value of the product itself is relatively high," said Li Xuesong, but it requires a very deep knowledge and experience. In his opinion, only masters can overlook.

From the perspective of the development trend of the world's collectors, Treasures will increasingly be concentrated in large collections and farther and farther away from individuals.

The slogan of “Flood Collection”, which has a good eye for good mood, sounds good, but if you do not prepare for it, you will not experience it, and you will be tempted to bring all the people’s ** that come at the cost of cultural heritage and ecological disaster. Wu Shu called for people to return to the traditional way of paying attention to cultural connotations in the traditional sense and value the appreciation and personal interest in collecting.

Collection of risks, investment needs to be cautious. But collections are not unacceptable. For collectors, they must have good eyesight and a good attitude.

Eyesight is the first level to enter the collection of art, including personal knowledge, talent, experience and so on. "In the art market, if you look at it properly, you can start it quickly. In fact, it's just a matter of time," said Li Xuesong. However, good eyesight is often achieved after paying high “tuition fees”.

At the same time, there must be peace of mind when engaging in collections, rather than speculative purposes for the short-term. On the basis of certain appreciation, with a hobby, appreciation, aesthetic attitude, to buy their favorite items, do not care too much about other people's evaluation, do not have to care too much about the market price fluctuations.

For those who are interested in collections, Li Xuesong proposes to look at the exhibition more and increase his understanding of culture, history, art, and the art market. If he wants to start buying, he can start by purchasing small items, continue to practice in the market, and continuously accumulate experience.
