On January 5th, according to statistics released by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Health, as of 10:00 a.m. on the previous day, several second- and third-tier hospitals in the city had treated over 720 patients who fell due to snow-related conditions, with more than 160 of them suffering fractures. Of these, 55 patients were admitted for hospitalization. Meanwhile, the city's 120 and 999 emergency centers received over 1,200 emergency calls related to snow-related incidents.
According to an official from the Jishuitan Hospital News Center, from the morning of January 8th through the early hours of January 3rd, the hospital’s emergency department saw a total of 62 patients who suffered falls due to slipping on snow. Four of these patients required orthopedic surgery. Reports indicate that most of the injured individuals had wrist or ankle injuries. The age range of those affected was between 40 and 60 years old, with the oldest being 70 and the youngest just 11. Among them, the majority were middle-aged women.
In response to the rising number of fall-related injuries, the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau has issued a public warning, advising the elderly to avoid going out as much as possible after snowfall. Women are also encouraged to avoid wearing leather or high-heeled shoes when stepping outside. Instead, it is recommended to opt for rough-soled flat shoes or patterned flats to reduce the risk of slipping on icy or marble surfaces.
