What is Burmese Sapphire

It is produced in the Mulberry area, 90 kilometers northeast of Mandalay, Myanmar. The darker color is dark blue or slightly purple indigo, which is similar to Kashmiri sapphire in daylight, but under the tungsten-chromium light, the color of Burmese sapphire will become darker and even darker. Burmese sapphire is available in both transparent sapphire and star sapphire.

Burmese sapphire

The transparent sapphire is not uniform in color. It is observed with a 10x magnifying glass. It is often seen that there are parallel or rutile rutile inclusions and ribbons that intersect at 60° and 120° angles, and sometimes octahedral spinels and Solid inclusion of uranium pyrochlore.

Star sapphire If the sapphire contains three sets of filiform inclusions that are densely arranged at an angle of 60° and 120°, six-shot starlight will appear after honing, which is a star sapphire. The star sapphire produced in Myanmar is generally not as transparent as Sri Lankan sapphire. It is mostly translucent to opaque, with bright spots concentrated in the center of the starlight, and the star line is becoming thinner and thinner.
